Technical and Historical Notes
As part of Venus' Rapid
Militarization Plan, the Serpent II was the first "new" mobile suit to
be produced since the disarmament of the Earth Sphere Unified Nation in
AC 196. Little more than a more modern version of the Barton
Foundation's Serpent, the Serpent II was
intended to be the backbone of Venus' military strength, a general
purpose mobile suit that could perform well in space or on the ground,
supported by the more lightly equipped but faster and more manuverable VMF01-1VMS Orion. The suit's two most
noticeable changes from the original Serpent are an enlarged booster
pack with auxillery fuel tanks, and the addition of three Planet
Defensor units first made famous by the OZ-13MSX2 Mercurius during the
Eve Wars.
Despite the later production of newer mass production mobile suits
designed by the unwilling Tiffany Geslacht of Prototype Mobile Suits,
Inc, the Serpent II would remain a mainstay of the Venus military
throughout the war.
