Technical and Historical Notes
At the time of the Une
Conflict, plans called for five MDC-HEC00
Leviathan class transports, but only the first three were
spaceworthy at the time the conflict broke wide open. While the Leviathan-1, Leviathan-2, and Leviathan-3
departed to rescue the fleeing Preventers, the Leviathan-4 and Leviathan-5 were still being
constructed. The two Leviathans were going to be scrapped completely
before Martian engineers saw the huge ships' potential as proper
warships with some modifications. The changes were drawn up, and the
two massive ships were redesignated as Behemoth class supercarriers.
Visually identical to the Leviathan at a glance, the Behemoth
sacrifices nearly half of its cargo space to house a rounded armament
consisting of large beam cannons mounted on turrets all over the main
body, as well as several large missile tubes housed in the leading
edges of the ship's wings. While not nearly as massive as the Venusian
flagship Aphrodite, the Behemoth still
retained enough hangar space to carry a sizeable mobile suit
compliment, and with the addition of several launch catapaults on the
ship's outer surface near the airlocks, the ship could launch its
entire mobile suit force relatively rapidly, and provide considerable
long-range punch against other warships, making the Behemoth a virtual
flying fortress. The two Behemoths would serve as the mainstays of the
Mars Defense Corps fleet during the Venusian conflict.
