Technical and Historical Notes
Taking their design cues
from Peacemillion's massive wedge-shaped design, the Leviathan was
designed for seemingly one purpose- to cover large distances fairly
quickly, gather up a great deal of mobile suits, carriers, and
shuttles, and to bring them safely to Mars. Preventers Commander Lady
Une developed a close rapport with the Mars Sphere government, and both
planned for a likely inevitable split in the Preventers and the Earth
Sphere Unified Nation, a split that finally occured during the
transition of Preventers command to Josie Selvaggio. At the time of the
Une Conflict, only three of these massive transport ships were
spaceworthy, and these first three ships were sent to Earth to retrieve
the retreating Preventers who supported Lady Une's command.
While lightly armed for its size with three double-barrled beam cannons in the frontal section, the ship's sturdy construction and extremely heavy armoring enabled the ships to take a great deal of abuse from enemy mobile suits during the Preventer evacuation. While the Leviathan was built with no actual launch catapaults, the ship could load a massive amount of smaller carriers and mobile suits fairly rapidly through the use of ten seperate airlocks, all leading to the massive hangar deck inside the gargantuan ship. Though all three would suffer some damage in the space battle, they would successfully escape the Earth Sphere, saving the lives of many Preventer agents who refused to follow Josie Selvaggio.
Two more ships of the Leviathan class were already under construction when the Une Conflict broke open, however they would be refit and built into the MDC-HEC01 Behemoth class supercarrier.
