Technical and Historical Notes
Soon after the Eve Wars,
many mobile suits were sold to civilians and industry. Out of this
clearance, new recreational activities came about, and an early
favorite was racing mobile suits, either in the form of drag racing or
circuit racing. The cheapest of the old mobile suits was the sorely
outdated OZ-06MS Leo, and as such, it
tended to fall in the hands of groups of college students and
hobbyists, who would then strip down the suit's armoring and replace it
with lightweight materials, and heavily modify the engines and shock
absorbtion systems. Some would do away with the head section entirely
to reduce the suit's weight, and replace the cockpit hatch and forward
monitor with a clear casing similar to a car's windshield. Rather like
with the automobile before it, owners would go to great lengths to
"trick out" their mobile suits, including air scoops for better
cooling, downforce wings on the shoulders or backpack for better
stability, or a custom paint job at the very least.
