Quite possibly the least expected mobile weapon to enter combat in the war was the so-called "FalconWing", built in secret by Gundam pilot Heero Yuy's youngest child Ariana, age 14 at the time. Ariana, an avid and naive collector of war memorabilia, had obtained the wreckage of the Gundams Wing, Wing-Zero, and Epyon, as well as various other scrap parts, and tore them apart to study. Wanting to possess a functional mobile suit of her own, Ariana used these ruined bits coupled with an uncanny knack for mechanical work to gradually piece together a combat-capable mobile suit. She named the unit, based on Heero's Wing Gundam's design, "FalconWing". While originally the suit had no model number, it was later designated by the Preventers as "XXXG-01W2".

Like its predecessor Wing, the FalconWing can transform into a flight-capable "Hawk mode", and has excellent mobility and armoring due to its primarily Gundanium alloy armor. It is armed with vulcan guns and machinecannons as well as a beam saber, but its greatest weapon is the twin buster rifle inherited from the Wing-Zero. Though easily able to overpower the mass-produced suits fielded by the Earth Defense Organization, the unit's performance is still several steps below the modern Gundams fielded by Mars due to the extensive use of salvaged parts, some from the old Gundams, but even some salvaged from OZ Leos and Virgos.

The FalconWing would first see battle on September 11, AC 216 by Yoshino Yuy, grief-stricken over his mother's assassination and vowing revenge on Venus. Heero and Ariana pursued the stolen Gundam with 'borrowed' Preventer Gryphons while Sidra Peacecraft gave chase with her father's Tallgeese Custom. It was during the short battle that the FalconWing's most dangerous feature was revealed: the ZERO system from the Wing-Zero. The suit would later see battle during the Une Conflict, when Ariana took the suit into space to engage Selvaggio's forces while the Preventers attempted to evacuate to Mars. The suit was later upgraded by Prototype Mobile Suits, Inc, bringing the unit's abilities up to par as the PMS-XXXG-01W2-R FalconWing (Refit).
